Neoliberalism has brought out the worst in us — A hypothesis that the market rewards certain personality traits (those that afford competition and profit) and only accepts and rewards those who conform to those traits. Reading this helped me understand two uncomfortable feelings I've always had: that there's only one way to win at work and that success in life is seen predominantly as success in work. These feelings were the driving force behind my career and life choices in my 20's and early 30's, which resulted in burnout, a lack of fulfillment, and a life underdeveloped in every area but work.
